Heida le Grand 750ml

Heida le Grand 2022 shows the great, ripe side of one of the most characterful Valais white wine varieties. Power, alpine freshness and mineral tension meet here with a finely tuned maturation in barrique. The result is not a loud wine, but one with depth: multi-layered, dense and elegant, with an aroma that opens further with each sip.

Heida, the traditional name for Savagnin Blanc in Valais, naturally brings spice, structure and remarkable freshness. In the Le Grand line, this personality receives additional space and maturity. The wood does not stand apart from the wine, but works with it. It gives it texture, warmth and complexity, without allowing its alpine origin to disappear under a layer of barrique.

On the nose, it begins with ripe pear, white peach, and juicy yellow fruit. There are hints of mandarin and citrus zest, a delicate touch of pineapple, as well as bright flowers. With a bit of air, vanilla, roasted almond, and a subtle nutty spice emerge. Behind it, there is always this cool, stony minerality that grounds the wine and gives it tension despite all its fullness.

On the palate, it becomes even slightly larger. The fruit appears ripe and concentrated, the texture creamy yet precise. A lively acidity keeps the power in balance, while fine roasted aromas, vanilla, and almond slowly transition into the spicy minerality. The barrel provides structure and length without overshadowing the fruit. In the long finish, yellow fruit, citrus, fine nut, a bit of vanilla, and a salty mineral echo remain.

This is a Heida for the grand table. It shows its full class with robust fish, scallops, shellfish, poultry, veal, creamy risotto, mushroom dishes, or aged alpine cheese. Dishes with butter, nuts, fine roasted aromas, or a creamy sauce also beautifully capture its aromatic profile.

Serving suggestion: serve at around 12 to 14 °C in a large white wine glass and give it some time. A few minutes of air are often enough for the fruit, spice, minerality, and barrel to connect in their full depth.
