Malbec le Premier 750ml
The Malbec le Premier 2022 is the dark hunter among the Cave Biber wines: powerful, dry, berry-like and spicy, with plum, cocoa and that deep colour which already in the glass reveals that this is no wallflower being poured. A red wine for game, roots, roasted aromas and plates that smell of autumn.
On the nose, there are blackberries, blueberries, dark plums and black cherries. Added to this are violets, thyme, a hint of juniper, dark chocolate, cocoa and a fine earthy spice. The aroma is dense and appetising – like a basket full of forest berries next to freshly cut herbs and a piece of dark chocolate.
On the palate, it is dry, full-bodied and juicy. The dark fruit brings richness, the acidity keeps the wine lively, and the tannins provide structure and bite. At 13.5% vol., it feels powerful but not overloaded. The finish remains dark berry-like, spicy and carried by a fine cocoa note.
Malbec comes from an old French grape family; its parents are Magdeleine Noire des Charentes and Prunelard. In the Valais, it shows a distinctive, colour-intensive and spicy side here – enough individuality to be taken seriously even without an Argentine comparison.
Culinarily, this wine belongs to the hunting season: venison stew, roe deer loin, wild boar ragout, duck breast with plum jus, lamb with herb crust, mushroom pan, oven-roasted beets, celery puree, roasted carrots, oven-baked pumpkin or a hearty vegetable gratin with dark roasting aromas. In short: the hunter's yield, vegetables from the embers and sauces that had time.
The gold medal at the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse 2024 underscores its appearance: dark, characterful, well-structured and with a strong pull towards the next bite.
Serving suggestion: enjoy at around 14 °C. A large glass and some air bring dark fruit, spice and cocoa particularly beautifully to the forefront.
A Malbec for game, forest and spice – dark at its core, juicy on the palate and with enough backbone for everything that comes from the oven, pan or hunting kitchen.
